Things to Do in Dallas!

John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza

One of my favorite things about Aglow International’s tradition of holding our conferences in different cities each year is the opportunity to experience so many new things that our beautiful country has to offer; sites that normally, I would not plan to see. This week, I have received a few recommendations from fellow Aglow attendees (and native Texans!) for some exciting sites right near our hotel that are worth noting!

Due to low numbers in our 2023 Jacksonville tours, Aglow will not be working with a tour company in Dallas this year. However, while there will not be any formal tours, I would encourage you to see if other Aglow ladies and gentlemen might want to join you in forming a group to see some of these sites! Any and all visits would be up to you to plan and to pay any required fees, but there are many opportunities very close to our conference hotel! Be sure to check them out!

The first and possibly most recognized Dallas site is the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza. Dedicated on June 24, 1970, the memorial has become an integral part of the city’s landscape and cultural heritage. According to the website, it is located one block east of Dealey Plaza, between Main and Commerce Streets. After viewing the memorial, visitors can learn more about the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy at “The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza,” featuring the main exhibit, John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation. The museum is open Wed-Sun from 10 am to 5 pm. The last tickets of the day are sold at 4:15 pm. Please be sure to check rates and hours prior to your visit as they are subject to change. Tickets cost $25 for adults, and $23 for seniors 65+ (or purchase discounted tickets online!). The museum is conveniently located at 411 Elm Street, Dallas, TX 75202, and is only 3 blocks from the West End Station (connects DART lines) and five blocks north of Union Station- making it only 7 minutes by car or an easy 10-minute walk from our conference hotel! Their website also includes a great list of local dining options! JFK Plan Your Visit

Secondly, a wonderful recommended site is the George W. Bush Presidential Library! The George W. Bush Presidential Library is the 13th Presidential Library in the USA and promotes an understanding of the American presidency, examines the specific time in history during which President Bush served, and provides access to official records and artifacts from the George W. Bush administration. The library incredibly maintains approximately 43,000 artifacts, primarily foreign and domestic gifts given to the President and Mrs. Laura Bush, and other items obtained throughout the presidency. The Library is open Mon-Fri from 9 am to 3:30 pm but I would encourage you to double check their hours prior to your visit. The library is located at 2943 SMU Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75205 and is approximately 14 minutes from our conference hotel by car.

Along with the Presidential Library be sure to visit The George W. Bush Presidential Museum which promotes a greater understanding of the American presidency and examines the consequential times during which the President and Mrs. Bush served. The museum offers a moving exhibit on September 11, 2001, a replica of the Oval Office, and an interactive experience in presidential decision-making through the Decision Points Theater. The museum is open Mon-Sat from 9:30am to 5pm and Sunday’s from Noon to 5pm. Tickets to the museum cost $12 ($9 for AAA Members and Seniors 62 years+ and youth are $5 each) and can be purchased online here: Tickets, or at the Museum. Please note: Luggage and large bags are not permitted, photography is allowed in the museum but flash is prohibited. (Ticket prices are subject to change).

An Aglow attendee also recommended WallBuilders, located in Dallas. According to their website, WallBuilders is dedicated to teaching America’s forgotten history and heroes, emphasizing the moral, Christian, and constitutional foundation on which our nation was built. Taking their name from the Old Testament story of Nehemiah, WallBuilders seeks to energize people to become involved in strengthening their communities, states, and nation. At the time of this writing, WallBuilders is closed for the summer, so be sure to visit their website to confirm any November, 2024, tours. WallBuilders tours MUST be scheduled in advance. As of this writing, there are no fall tours scheduled and the address is not provided until a tour is scheduled. Check back at the end of the summer once they are open again for more information.

WallBuilders’ goal is to help identify many of the heroes of American history and uses the actual writings of the Founding Fathers to show that the Bible was unequivocally the primary source that directed their ancestors as they founded our nation. You can also learn more about WallBuilders through their podcast on Spotify and/or Apple Podcasts

Finally, one of the sites that I am most excited about is a possible visit to Capernaum Studios! Be sure to catch up with my recent blog post featuring the studio where the first two seasons of “The Chosen” were filmed! To read more, visit our blog post.

Feels awesome to be midst the audience listening to great speakers in Christ Jesus. Even the conference title is appetizing such that I can’t wait to hear what the full message has in store for us.
Dallas on it’s part is also a fundamental tool as she is very attractive adding some spiritual spice in as far as this year’s conference is concerned.
    Regards.
